Development and Performance Analysis of Routing Algorithm for Voice over Internet Protocol Long Term Evolution Network

Abstract

Voice over Internet Protocal (VoIP) has become accessible to consumers in recent years due to the increase in voice call applications and the increasing capabilities of the internet. Consumers can access the internet almost anywhere. Long Term Evolution (LTE) network is a standard for wireless data communications intended to significantly improve the previous technology standard. Unlike the precedent technology that supports circuit switching, LTE only supports packet switching. The development and performance analysis of routing algorithm for VoIP LTE was carried out to determine the network Quality of Service (QoS). VoIP LTE model network was developed firstly, followed by routing algorithm based on the network model and simulated on Network simulator2 (Ns2)., It has been found that throughput with obtained value 10.52Mbps against the International Union Telecommunication standardization sector (ITU-T) (0-50)Mbps range, end to end delay obtained value 0.06ms against (0-150)ms range and jitter with obtained value 7.00ms against (0-20)ms fall in the good range of QoS while packet loss with obtained value 1% against the (0.5-1.5)% range falls in the acceptable range of ITU-T QoS standards. The results show that VoIP LTE is a good service for both local and international application because the network offers good QoS.
